Here’s how to keep your toiletries from leaking during air travel

Leaking toiletries during air travel: we’ve all had to deal with it at one time or another. The fact that everyone has experienced it, however, does not make it any less irritating. Therefore, use this method for packing your bottles and tubes to keep your luggage clean and dry during your trip.

Leaking products

Look, we quite understand that there are all sorts of safety reasons that we can’t take our full-sized beauty products with us when we travel, but it’s still quite a circus every time to get all those creams, serums, lotions and toners into a series of mini-packs.

Moreover, we regularly find that despite all that effort, they still don’t survive the plane ride. Because what happens? Due to the pressure differences that occur during air travel, the air inside a package can expand. As a result, that expensive serum or your favorite cream is squeezed out of its packaging. Upon arrival, it looks like your personal care products have simply exploded in your toiletry bag. Of course, you can choose to simply purchase all your skincare on location, but well – it’s not really ideal, of course.

Lifehack

Fortunately, there is a simple tip that will help you avoid this shortcoming. Former flight attendant Sandra Jeenie Kwon, also known as “Jeenie Weenie,” shares her golden tip in a short video:

In a response to a video from an annoyed traveler, she shows how she adds an extra layer of sealant to a package with a piece of cling film. No complicated fuss, but a simple, inexpensive and effective solution. Moreover, such a piece of cling film fits easily into your suitcase, so you can take your freshly-bought beauty products with you on the return trip without any problems.

Another tip

A little foil and preparation goes a long way. But is your flight leaving in half an hour and are you looking for a last-minute solution? Then it can help to make sure there is as little air in the packaging of your skincare as possible. So squeeze your packaging just a little more than you normally would, so the remaining air has plenty of room to expand.
